Dr. Feusner's clinical neuroscience research explores the brain's role in perception, emotion, and reward in conditions related to body image, obsessions, and compulsions.

He also examines gender identity and body perception in individuals with gender dysphoria. Utilizing neuroimaging, psychophysical testing, neuromodulation, and novel digital avatars, his pioneering work includes the first fMRI, EEG, DTI, and TMS studies in body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) and the first comparisons of BDD to anorexia nervosa.

His brain imaging findings in BDD including abnormal visual processing in influenced its classification and criteria in the 2013 DSM-5. Current research focuses on visual perceptual modulation using behavioral and TMS methods, developing 3D digital avatars for quantifying body size estimation accuracy and body image, reward learning in anorexia nervosa, and the brain endocannabinoid system in obsessive-compulsive disorder.
